I read an interesting article today called The Programming Aphorisms of Strunk and White. The premise was that Strunk and White’s 1935 writing manual, The Elements of Style, contains a wealth of of advice that programmers as well as writers should heed. Whether communicating with a human reader or instructing a dumb machine, the form of beauty which is clear and effective writing stands one in good stead. That makes a lot of sense to me; I must see if I can track down a copy of the book.
