Purple Folder - 3

Yesterday lunchtime, I was playing around with ideas for the current Digital Photography School Assignment, Purple (which closes later today). The shot above is not what I originally had in mind but I was very pleased with the way it came out.

I had decided to capture an image of the purple folder I use for my Elusive Teeth music (nb. gig in Croydon on Friday) and I determined to experiment with the extreme macro capabilities of the Vivitar 90mm f/2.5 lens I got for Christmas. However, while I did get a reasonable shot, I was satisfied. In particular, it was a problem working with such a degree of closeness, where the slightest move can throw the wrong things out of focus.

Before I finished the session, I tried another experiment I had been promising myself, using the Vivitar’s macro adaptor on my Nikon 50mm f/1.8 E series lens. That is the result you see above, slightly touched up to enhance contrast and colour but essentially very similar. You can probably get a better sense of the angle when you look at the version I took with the Vivitar sans adaptor (which can do extreme close-ups all by itself).
