Walking back from the library past my church yesterday lunchtime, I spotted significant damage to the wall on one side of the old main gates.

I don’t know exactly what happened but my guess is that it was probably caused by some kind of vehicle; if you click on the image to view the full set you will see that there were some chippings trailing out to the kerb (although no telltale marks on either of the two over-sized SUVs parked there).

I also wonder if the wall itself is weaker than I had assumed – some of those bricks look to have popped out without sustaining any damage and the metal seems untouched. However, it all needs sorting out and is the kind of mystery I could have done without!
