I was recently playing around with taking some pictures through a drinking glass. There are four in the set – the other three show a couple of my instruments with various distortions but I had the flash on for the first one, which obscured everything except the glass itself.

It is probably not the apogee of my image making but I like to experiment. Like practising new kinds of music on the bass, it builds my vocabulary and prepares me for a wide range of situations.

It also makes me very grateful for digital cameras; without the ability to easily experiment and see the results without delay, I am sure I would have far less interest in the art of photography.
