Audioscrobbler… update.

It’s been a while since my last posting on my experiments with Last.FM and the audioscrobbler plugin. I was having some problems getting my listening choices uploaded but, if you look at my profile, you’ll see that I’ve stuck with it and now have over a thousand tracks to my name.

I’ve come up with various ways to get round the glitches. At work, I’ve started using my Windows Server 2003 to run Winamp for most of my music listening. The plugin on that works smoothly and those tracks get registered; occasionally I’ll even leave a CD that I’ve listened to in the car running with the volume off if I’m in and out of the office and want to get the tracks registered!

There has also been a new version of Ubuntu Linux since I signed up for Last.FM back in September. This comes with a later version of the Amarok music player, which has a more reliable plugin built in. The only thing I haven’t figured out how to do is to get it to recognise CDs under my Linux set up (I’m not using the KDE environment that it was designed for so I’m missing a vital hook somewhere) but that’s not a pressing concern since I can use the Windows machine for that.

However, I am still maintaining my previous listening record. If you were really observant, you’d notice a few discrepancies among the two but, unless superstardom creeps up on me unexpectedly, I doubt anyone is going to dig that deep! The experiment continues but I’m finally getting some pretty graphs of my listening that I’m happy with as reasonably representative.
